I was changing out my plug on my volvo penta 5.0 gl when I fresh water coming out of the spark plug hole on the right side of the motor. Now the boat has not been in the water for a period of time. It has been run off the water muffs. I think right of way head gasket cracked block ect. So I drained the oil to work on rust issues fill it back up took a compression test all cylinders read 180 - 200 psi. I drained the right side log checked the gaskets I then pulled the engine water pump off and found that water had been coming out of the pee hole. I then put a new pump on and all my water problems went away I notice the water cirulation was coming out of the boat where is suppose to and the boat is running extremly well and no more signs of trouble. What could be going on?

You need to check the gasket surfaces between the exhaust manifold and elbow. They corrode away and allow water into the engine.

Thanks Don S. I will replace gaskets. With a car motor which I am more familar with water in oil is alway very bad. I have never seen the water go away like this. The new water pump is doing somthing just hope I don't have small leak somwhere but going from all that water to none amazes me

Don't just replace the gasket, check the gasket surfaces. They can corrode away in time.

Did you have a lot of water in your oil too?
