My tub is coming out of the water in 2 weeks to clean/remove barnicles/re anti-fowl/service leg.

I have never done this before.
The Marina hire me the water blaster and said they would show me what to do. I don't want to count on their advice, just in case there is no one there that day to give it.

It is being lifted by sling (25' Flybridge).

How do I get barnicles off, without harming the F/glass.
How do I go about cleaning the bottom.
Do I have to sand it smooth.

There will be 3 of us, and it is the blind leading the very blind.
Any and every bit of advice on this matter would be really appreciated.

Cheers
Phillip

Check out Interlux Paints website, or Pettit's, they have all the info about antifouling paints.
Firstly though, you have to be careful because all these paints are toxic, so if you are going to be sanding, stripping and applying them, you have to get appropriate safety gear (tyvek suits, respirator, goggles, etc).
That is one job I let the boat yard do, I do most of the mechanical stuff myself.

The essential things that are needed are 1-a bottle of boat bottom cleaner,on-off is the best on the market but you have to be careful with it because it is an acid. 2- a stiff bristle brush/broom 3-pressure washer .The first and most important step to keep the process simple is to have the pressure washer set up and ready to go BEFORE the boat comes out of the water so the moment it is out of the water you can begin pressure washing the bottom. It is essential to pressure wash before anything dries up.If you wait you will quadruple your work load.Start with the transom and then work to the front of the boat concentrating on the most fouled parts. The barnicles may come off if the pressure washer is strong enough. If there are still sections that look fouled or contain barnicles then you will spray bottom cleaner on those areas and work it in with the bristle brush/broom and pressure wash again.READ the directions on the bottom cleaner you choose. Most will advise to wear gloves and respirator so be careful.Hopefully you can get it all with the first stroke of the pressure washer.Charlie
