Antifouling paint on toons in fresh water

Hi all! My pontoon remains in the water year round, it is used as a daily driver during good weather and a cargo hauler the rest. Of course I have problems with algae growth. I've been considering cleaning the toons well and coating the lower half with antifouling paint.
Has anyone here tried this? Would there be any downside to it?
I usually pull it twice a year to power wash the algae off, about the time I get to a 2mph loss.
