You did use non-toxic antifreeze, didn't you? I'm certainly not a treehugger, but it's really, really bad to just dump toxic AF on the ground.

M140P

Pull the coil wire - hook up muffs-
place 5 gallon bucket under prop -
Roll engine over untill bucket is
full - end of problem -start engine.

Make sure your bilge plug is in, pull the engine and manifold drain plugs and the water pump hose and let it drain into the bilge then pull the bilge plug and let that drain into a drain pan.

hello
if you did not use the nontoxic shame on you. call the EPA.
if you just dump the toxic it will kill grass trees kids cats dogs and about anything else that drinks it. but hey it did not freeze. if you did use the non-toxic just hook up the muffs check the oil level and fire that hummer up.
good luck and keep posting

That is a great idea if you did use eth glycol. It wouldn't get 100%, but most of it. I use Prestone low-tox, a poly glycol with anti-corrosion. Sierra is another brand of poly gly.

Last fall I had my 1998 Sea Ray winterized by an independent boat service shop. I thought this Spring I would have to take it back to get it dewinterized but your advice seems to indicate that is not necessary.Should I still use a set of muffs to flush out the antifreeze(non toxic)? A local guy told me just to drop it in the lake and start it up and it might smoke a little but it will be fine.
p sully

P. Sully, Before I started doing it myself I had a shop do the winterizing and they didn't add antifreeze. Therefore you can just drop it in the lake and go. It will smoke, I believe thats the fogging oil being burned off. The place I used encouraged you to come back in the spring and have them start it up on Muffs to check for leaks etc... Was included in the price so why not.

I live in Minnesota so I add the antifreeze as a little extra insurance. I use the lo tox and drain it into the bilge and then a bucket.

I always run my boats on muffs before putting them in the water.Best to find out if there are any problems while in your driveway rather than in the boat ramp.It also serves as a warm up so you are ready to go.Charlie
