Not sure if this should go under props or engines so I'll start here.

I am restoring a 1915 Evinrude Model A and my prop was bent. I also have a 1917 Evinrude Model AA, the boat anchor twin, so I thought I would use the prop off it since it's near perfect. After removing it I see one is left hand and one is right hand rotation. Why would the 1917 have left hand rotation?

Probably because the original owner used it in a twin engine application. I have seen a lot of photos of smaller boats with smaller twin outboards from the earlier years. The counter-rotation prop cancels out torque reaction and the boat steers easier and straighter.

I'm sure that in 1915 standard prop rotation hadn't been established.Probably lots of motors had lefthand rotation.
