Just checking to see if their are any other bird owners on this forum. We purchased our 3rd bird last night. So right now we have a 19 year old Blue & Gold Macaw, a 3 year old Quaker Parrot, and a 7 month old Eclectus.

If you have a bird, please share photos and any stories for us to enjoy.

Thanks!

I'll have pics of mine up later tonight.

Re: Any bird owners in here?

We had a couple of Parakeets for approx. 8yrs...Friend asked me one day if we would be interested in adopting them{free of charge}from him as they seemed very depressed and he was out of patience. When he brought them over they were both in a shared cage to small for a mouse/hamster..we went out that evening and bought a nice 3'x 4' one with some toys{bells, mirror's etc.} and they never shut up during their entire stay with us. We named them Porky & petunia as they were quite messy with they're feather shedings. Petunia luved to tease the cat by sticking her wing thru the cage and shake it at her{least that's what we claimed she was doing}lol.

Once had a neighbor two doors down who had a Macaw...we could hear every sound that bird made like it was in our living room

We bought a parakeet last week. That thing is nuts. Our last parakeet starting favoring one foot for no reason and within 3 months he died. Hopefully this one will last longer.

Had our fair share of budgies and parakeets over the years. When the last one fell off the perch we put the cage in mothballs and it is still in the garage attic somewhere.
Always wanted a mynah bird though and one day you never know !!:)

the house next door, to where we stay in the Keys, has huge Blue & Gold Macaw. he is basically free to do as he pleases. has a cage on the porch with door open. he goes out and sits in the palm trees and talks to everyone.

I haven't quite figured out how to make the grey one friendly.... he bites and hardly ever will come to you, but he sings every morning :)

The yellow one will chirp till you let her out and then she'll fly to where ever you are! Then she wants her neck scratched :)

I present, Dexter and Didi.

Re: Any bird owners in here?

Had an African Grey Parrot when I was growing up. I don't miss it. He would repeat the most annoying sounds of the house.. phones ringing, doorbell, someone knocking on the door, dogs barking. Then there were the funnier sounds.. cows mooing, us answering the phone "Hello?". He is likely just a middle-aged bird by now.. they live 70+ years. I hope he is keeping someone company today, but I'm glad it is no longer me.

I take it you had a different opinion on some of these birds in your part of the world?

Re: Any bird owners in here?

Haven't gotten to the pictures yet, but I will. Our trio has completely different personalities. The Macaw has some psych issues which led to his plucking. (We adopted him last year from a family who really didn't take care of him. He was on a completely seed diet and for macaw's, that's not good.) The quaker probably has the biggest personality and typically is a smartalec. And the Eclectus is very quiet and shy.

All of them are quite entertaining. Especially when they are interacting with each other....one will say something, the other will say "shut up"...the other will say "Oh my God!" They really like mocking and picking on each other.
