I got a strange question for you.... Will a shock collar grenade a chip implant?
I have two min pins, seperate standards and both adopted. One is a reh pin,and is no discipline problem at all. The other, a black and tan, who has several behaviour quirks. One of which, is bolting after cats and such, oblivious to the length of her leed -- and she pulls like a pit bull too. Combine THAT with knowing when she has yanked the leed out of your hand. She then will no longer respond to ANY command.....
So, out of frustration and concern for her safety, I have purchased a shock collor. I haven't had to use it yet, other than to make her wear it, (so she gets used to it being there). But the concern is: if needed, (and sooner or later, it will be), will it zap her chip?
Do you have any advice or comments about if and when to "use" the thing?

Never had to use one with our dogs, but the collar manufacturer should be able to help you out with the chip question.

Oh well, too late. I had to zap her tonight. It took two well-time zaps to get her to turn around, but it werked! :)
She has a checkup in two weeks, so I'll just have the vet scan for the chip.

I've been thinking about getting those for my dogs. They live in the house or in the kennel out back when we're gone. They're pretty well trained, but they're tormented by deer all day long when they're in the kennel. Sometimes when we let them out they bolt and don't come back for hours. I'm worried someone will get them. Ones a registered Weimeriner and the other one's a Black Lab. I'd like to shock them to get their attention when they bolt. If I can do that they'll come back when I call. Eventually I'd like to use the beep to make 'em stop and ultimately they just listen when I tell them to stop.

My Stepdad OTOH keeps his remote in his shirt pocket and shocks the dog for every little thing it does. His dog has stopped most of its bad habits at the expensive of being cowered down every time he comes near the dog. That's not the situation I want to create at my house.

Exactly, i386. We gotta let our dogs be dogs. I only zapped her after she failed to stop, or come towards me.
It took two zaps. I can say without a doubt, they DO werk.
But to use it to turn a dog into a robot is the opposite of joy.

Does your collar have the beep (aka warning shot) function? I think the idea is to whistle/yell, beep, then shock. Eventually whistle/yell is enough. Whether it really works out that way or not I don't know.

The one I got is the ADV-300, Available online at Pet Sreet Mall] for 125buks. It has a very low, but anoying audible feature, has a range of 300Yards,
I agree that the "jolt" should come on a command ignored by the animal, usually, a universal word like "NO", or unique whistle from the master.
That's what I used, the "NO" is no longer ignored, and shock is not required again (so far)..

About the collar causing issues with the chip, I would say probably not since the chip is usually inserted on the lower back of the neck or shoulders. I guess you'll find out soon.

On a side note, what is this chip implant? Do you have Terminator dogs or what? :D
