Hello there!

Does anyone have experience with the Hiclone (www.hicloneqld.com) device?

I'm thinking of installing one or two in a Volvo Penta AD31 130 Hp Aftercooled Turbodiesel.

The engines fuelpump has been adjusted earlier to give more fuel. The engine makes now 3900 rpm (earlier 3800), but also more black smoke is blown out. If I'm right black smoke means that there is not enough air present in the combustion process.

The Hiclone should help the intake process and fill the cylinders with the same amount of air.
Also a ITG air filter is said to increase the air mass to the engine.

The most benefit should be achieved on medium speed marine diesels without common-rail.
Exhaust smoke has been decreased with 50 % and also engine noise has been decrased with several decibels.

I would be very interested to see what could be achieved with these simple devices.

Any comments are welcome!

Best regards,
Robbi

Robbi,

I dont know anything about it on boat engines but read a review in a car mag and it didnt substanciate their claims. I have my diesel car ECU remapped to up my horse power by 40bhp and as you I get more black smoke which I thought was unburned fuel.

If I want more air as well I can get a bigger intercooler (the hiclone is sort of a poor mans intercooler) but this seems to up the horsepower more but still with black smoke. It seems to be my experience if you go for max horsepower you get smoke.

I duhno robbi, I have a tough time understanding how something like this (Hiclone device) would work on any thing. It relies on air flow through the engine to function, and that creates more air flow? Wouldn't that be a kind of perpetual motion machine? Maybe I'm missing something...

They've been doing that on Heavy Equipment for Years...........
It Spins the Dirt out of the Air Flow,...... Doesn't do Anything Else..........

You might try Retarding the Timing alittle,........
It's Either That,.. Or Cut the Fuel Back Down............
Or,.... Throw some Real Money at it,+ Install a Bigger Turbo..............

I'm with jack,.... Putting Anything into the Air Flow, Isn't going to Increase it...........

Good Morning!

So you don't think that this device is going to do any good for the engine.

I'm going to discuss it next week with a reseller here in town. He is a mechanic specialised in automotive electronics and fuel injection systems.

I will report later about his experience with the Hiclone.

By the way, a similar device is used in a Mercedes-Benz engine (don't remember the engine number). Power increase was achieved with it!

Thanks for all comments you gave me!

Keep posting any info you have about it!

Robbi
