Okay so I finally got the boat home. The fella didnt know much about the engine such as the year and all that good stuff. We do know it cranks and starts very quick though :)

If yall can help me with finding the year on it and then recommending me a great manual that will tell me about it, I would oh so greatly appreciate it.

I know its a Evinrude 70 HP VRO.

Model Number- E70ELCD
Serial- G 1110018

Okay I found some websites and believe I have it figured out! I believe it is a 1986...

I looked on Ken Cooks site at the manuals and boy they are so expensive! Is there a place you can get them cheaper and which manuals do I actually need to learn? He had like 6 or 7 different ones.

Go to Ebay.com and enter 320065415317 in the search window. You probably will not find a better deal on a factory service manual.

The Service manual has everything that is in the owner's manual so you don't need an owner's manual. The parts manual is on line at the BRP site so you don't need that either.

Oh man fellas. Today I was just going over everything on the boat since I just got it home. I took a good look in the oil container and noticed that there was like a clear/white look to some of the oil... I am guessing this means water has gotten in it?

I have already had plans on draining out that oil tank as well as the gas tank just so I can have the benefit of knowing that im putting new fresh fluid in but now im wondering about that water or whatever it is in there... I havent started the thing and he only cranked it up to show me that she started up and what not... he then shut it off about 2 seconds later. Think that hurt anything? Do I need to drain any oil out of anywhere else? I just dont want that nasty white stuff in the engine anywhere.

When oil and water mix, it looks like cream. When it separates, oil floats on water.

If either condition exists, clean out the tank.

You would also want to run the motor ASAP with a different fuel and oil source in case water has gotten into the engine. You can temporarily block the oil line and run the engine on a portable tank with 50:1 premix if you need to.

You say he fired it up for a couple of seconds? Was there water being supplied to the water intakes, or did he just fire it up out of the water?

jimmbo, he fired it up without water running to it. It was basically a real quick on and off just so he could show me that it turned over. I dont any damage has been done but just to be safe... I am going to be replacing the water pump and housing stuff.

good plan. Those neoprene impellers need water as their lubricant. It doesn't take much to reduce their efficiency.
