Any jewelers in the house?

Im looking to sell a ring that at last appraisal for insurance reasons was appraised at $2495.00 back in 2006..Now I understand I would probably never be able to sell it for that much, but was just wondering how much the market has changed in the 4 years Ive had the ring. I stopped at the place i bought the ring at and they wanted $75 to appraise 1 piece of jewelry. Just trying to weigh my options here. Im laid off with no sign of going back to work in the near future so any cash in hand is better then no cash, not sure its worth the $75 to get an appraisal that may or not raise my selling price to recoup that $$.
Any help or ideas?

I can give the specs of the ring to someone if it helps.

i bought my wife a white gold, and half carat certified diamond. i was told by the jeweler i bought it from that the gold ring is worth more than the diamond. the diamond is flawless to 10x.
