Any mushroomers out there..............

Been finding them for a couple of weeks in Southern Ohio. Went out with friends for a walk in the woods to find these beauts. Saw deer,groose,tree rats and some gobblers. Ever notice in huntn seas. they tend not to be around then reappear when its safe. I guess abunch of old guys with bags and making noise makes em feel safe.<br /><br />A couple is a full meal for me. A frying pan with some heat and cooked with tons of butter until just right ummmmmmm.....Whats your favorite?

when we tent camp we always try to find a few<br />to use for cookin, hopfully with some nice fresh<br />caught fish

Flahthead .....Magic mushrooms.. oh boy......<br />Giant mors are my favorite..the kind you be talkn about tends to make you see things that makes you not want to come back to reality for a few days..Had to talk a person down one day from a three story who thought they could fly.......

spouse found 'bout 15, 6" morrells(sp) last week end. boys brought in 'bout dozen gills. fresh greens. table's set.<br />hmmm hmmm hmmm!<br /><br />we soak the shrooms over night to help scare away resident critters.slice in half. dredge in flower. shakem'em off & into a hot skillet of melted butter.<br /><br />WOW!<br /><br />i could fall face first into a field of shrooms & i wouldn't find-a-one

We used to find "puff balls" in the woods around the lake I was raised on in Upstate N.Y. I loved them. My grandmother was the one who taught us about the tree mushrooms and others that were edible. I know you don't want to make a mistake 'cause it can make you mighty sick. <br /><br />Man, I miss those puff balls.

i love mushrooms, buyem at grocery store and nukem with butter in microwave over my lunch break at work every now & then.<br /><br />but i've never studied how to hunt & recognize the ones i can safely eat. that is something i need to do. good idea! <br /><br />i saw my biggest yet last year at a national park, got photo of my little girl crouching down to look at it. it was under a huge white pine on the ground, white with little ring around stem near top. a dollar bill wouldn't touch both sides of the top.

<br /><br />Find these here in Nebraska all the time from last week of April thru the 1st 2 weeks of May. Fry em up in butter. My cholesterol has gone up 200-300 points so far this season

They're called a Morel Mushroom, and this particular species is quite edible, not to mention very tasty. In over 30 years, I've never eaten a "bad" one.

When I was young we would pick Pine mushrooms<br />in the second growth up in the mountains in<br />Terrace B.C. At that time professional pickers<br />would get ridiculous amounts of money for them<br />selling them to the Japanese markets. They are<br />very tasty.

nosleep - can you try to find one again? and give us a pic? i'm jonesin for sauteed mushrooms now... i can only drool over the "sheetok-ee" mushrooms at the grocery nearby, since for the price, i can eat a steak... they are huge, the kind you fillet - lol

newmanns the moral shown has no Poison version of it look for them in old apple orchreds and tue woods around your house thay only grow for a short time well your out hit the ditches for assperagus

Season pretty much done here now. Got about 150 morals this time. people paying any where from 10 to 12 dollars a pound for these yummies. Friends of mine are headn to Michigan to continue the quest. Myself I'm off to fish, got enough to go with my steaks and greens......

I saw a special on TV how people are shooting each other over morel picking grounds up in the northwest. Seems there is a hot market for those suckers.
