It must have been a common practice years ago.<br />If you were riding along and all of a sudden your<br />horse fell dead. While, you might just be seen<br />flogging a dead horse. Seems kind of natural you<br />know when you think about it!

The trials of the modern-day philosopher <br />Would be interesting to know where that phrase came from - when someone makes you think about it!<br /><br />We do say a lot of things that we really don't know what it means. Like "the whole nine yards." Understand that came for war - Ammo strip of machine gun was 9 yards long. When battle was hot and heavy they would give the enemy the "Whole 9 yards." At least that was what they said on the History Channel.

Read the post "OOPs reply" by Peterfishbuster. He has the answer.<br /><br />Now, where did that water go? Over the dam, thru the dam, under the bridge, down the pipe,???<br /><br />I've been looking for a book that lists all these old sayings, and their origin. Can't find one. Anyone know of one? Maybe I should research them and write "the book" and make millions.

What came first, the chicken or the egg?<br /><br />I would have to say the rooster ....<br /><br />hehehe <br /><br />(as a former egghead, I was a child genius - I do remember being in the first grade and the teacher said, well, thats like asking what came first, the chicken or the egg ... and I said, well, since mutation occurs during meiosis, the answer is obviously the egg! Duh!<br /><br />the other kids didnt understand, but saw her very red face and knew SHE understood, and with thirty kids laughing thier assses off, I got sent to the office<br /><br />the principal agreed with me, and thus was born a rather unique relationship, a pricipal that actually enjoyed when one of his students got in trouble ... the man loved talking to me, eh, Ive always been called a big thinker<br /><br />(usually by people that lisp! LOL)
