I use it for temp gauges, not water for water pressure gauges.

I just installed one there the other day. Haven't had my boat in the water but it read 107 today and I didn't see it change when running it on the muffs. It will be fun to observe this season.

Intersting you say 107 degrees. I have 1982 60hp and the thermostat is at the bottom of the water cover, a really improper place in my opinion. I had the thermostat out yesterday and it had 143 F on it. So if it opens at 143F its no wonder the top of my motor feels scolding a lot of the time. Being thinking of installing a temp sender myself

Why is it bad for the thermostat to be at the bottom of the head ??

I just looked at the specs of the water temp gauge I bought. It says it reads from 110*-300* not starting at 0*.

Stupid but I guess that's why it says 107*

Heat sink compound in the hole was a good idea.

Well i thought that would be the coolest place in the motor. All newer model seems to have them up the top.
143F at the bottom would mean its a lot hotter at the top by then and it feels it too.
Well thats my impression of how it works

agree -- good idea (placement too). Have a Bombardier temp gauge and think that sender placement you used was mentioned in the instructions (or something like it). If it's the same gauge, there is also the option of attaching it to one of the head cover bolts. Very simple operation.
