Well I found out that both of my bellows are rotted very bad. I have been wanting to install a new lower shift cable anyways just so I know its new. I have also been finding a little bit of water in the drive. Not alot just enough where you can tell.

Soooooo,

I'm bringing my boat home so I can do somethings. Mainly remove the drive and R&R both bellows, the gimball bearing, new lower shift cable, and I'm gonna pressure test the drive to see where the water is getting in from. I have a feeling its the drive bellows though.

So far I have ordered

U-Joint bellows
Exhaust boot
Shift cable bellow
Gimball bearing
New lower shift cable
outdrive gasket set

Ive taken the drive off and on before so thats not the question. The question I have is while Im at it what else should I replace or check on? Ive never done bellows or anything like that so that's why Im asking.

Another thing is if you look at the exploded diagram of the transom assy it shows a seal right behind the gimball bearing. Its on the front (bow) side.

For some reason I cant get a better site with diagrams to work right now but heres something. Its part #2, right by the Gimball bearing. Says its an oil seal.

Should I replace that seal?

So far besides what I have listed below the only other thing I can think of is to check the alignment, and if when installing the lower shift cable I feel I need em Ill go get new helm shift/throttle cables. Maybe, maybe paint the drive but I dunno if Ill have time for all of that.

So is there anything else I should do, or check?

Much thanks as always!!! :):):)

Go ahead and replace that seal if it makes you feel good, but it is essentially worthless, most leave 'em alone

And the shift boot is the one on top of the shift cable hose and normally doesn't get replaced unless it is missing.

While you have the pivot housing off take a good look at the trim lines, and consider replacing any that look questionable, just make sure to use the right wrench (like ones used on brake line fittings) so you don't round off the fittings. If you want your trim gauge to work pick up a Sierra trim sender and replace it while you have it all apart.
