Any thoughts on the Gregor windshield boats (e.g., MX780)?

I spoke with a person who said that the Gregor windshield boats are not that great - not a great construction and thinnish hull at .080.

Thing is, these are very nicely priced on the used market, have the perfect length for me (17ft) and a little lighter to tow and move around.

There is very little discussion out there on the windshield boats, and the Gregor sub-forum is not active.

Thoughts? Is that really sharp bow a bit of a gimmick or would it be a lot better in waves? I'm worried the boat may be a tad tippy with what looks like a major V hull (from the front anyway).

I looked at the Gregors before I bought my boat. The hull thickness is standard for a lot of aluminium boats. To get a heavier gauge you have to spend a lot more money. The V in the bow will help you cut through slop. Give one a sea trial.

The Gregors I've seen in San Diego Bay are similar in hull design to my Bayrunner (photo attached). "V" in the bow, almost flat at the transom with a high bow.

The high bow works well under some conditions - when you are heading into choppy waves. I haven't been able to take full advantage of it since, with the flat aft sections, I don't like the pounding in the conditions when it would serve me best. Only real down side is the high bow tends to act as a sail in windy conditions - can make putting it on the trailer a little trickey.View attachment 120276

BTW, my Bayrunner has 0.080 on the bottom and 0.063 on the sides. The guy I bought it from used to take it 20 miles off-shore of the San Diego coast after albacore.
