I want to put video cameras in 4 offices and record them for about 10 hrs each day. How difficult is this? How expensive is this? Approx. what equip would be needed?

Hi,

Am busy putting in 27 Cameras at work.

Not difficult.

You get cordless cameras, you also get cameras that only record once movement is detected reducing the amount of data you capture.

I would use a stand alone PC to which the data is captured. A high res camera will use about 10gig per 24 hours.

You need to be more specific about what you are trying to achieve. Remember it's useless capturing the info if you are not going to review it ....... 40 hours per day.

Cheers
Andrew

we have a big system (30 video cams) that uses a VCR for each camera it uses a new tape every 24 hours.

its kind of a joke when you go to the tape to see what happened the resolution is to low to put a positive ID on anybody.

So that would be my first item find a video quality that allows it to do its job and than see what it takes to store it.

tommays

The rooms will actually be classrooms and will be used approx 8-10 hrs each day. I will want to record all activity. But I see your point about movement. There are times certain rooms would not be used.

What do you think a system like this would cost. I can do any/all installation.

Any other suggestions? Thank you

If this is a short term project you can rent the equipment and have it installed. Will the be covert cameras? or ones out in the open? The small covert cameras do not provide good resolution. DO NOT RECORD SOUND unless you are willing to move to a federal prison until your sentance is up.

Contact a loss prevention specialist at a major supermarket or depatment store and they should be able to show you equipment and give you leads on what works and what does not.

Hi,

I am at about the same point as you. Still deciding which cameras, what resolution etc. We will subcontract all the work to a security specialist. It is up to me to select the equipment based on my output. To catch thieves.

Cheers
Andrew
