last year i changed out the stator rectifier and voltage regulator on my 200 merc 1988 O/B
it was charging for most of the season but i think it dropped off towards the end.....this year i suspect its not charging... i test my battery @ 12.63 volts and then run the motor and still get the same volts..
when i changed the stator i replaced it with a 14 amp ... instead of what was there i believe a 7 amp could that be too much for that type of REGULATOR ?? STATOR CHECKS OUT ... RECTIFIER CHECKS OUT

That combination wouldn't normally be a problem UNLESS the load (battery charging, pumps, lights etc) exceed the capacity of the regulator than it will be cooked. The weakest (or lowest rated device) link in the chain will fail. In your case it will be the regulator. Not sure how to test these. Someone else probably has the answer though.

Chances are if any thing failed it's the rectifier, you can test the reg. by removing the yellow wire that goes from it to the rect. and if your batt voltage increases it's the reg. You may test the rect. with an OHM meter--Bob
