Just wondering, I need to gain some traction on my ATV when plowing and was wondering if anyone is using the screw ice studs on their ATV, if so what brand and what experience have you had with them?

Guys on the can-am forum seem really pleased with them. Sorry, I don't know what brand studs, I haven't personally used them.

yes,

I have a set for the ATV, but they are just about useless, the tire lugs are to deep and they slip between the lugs.

hummmm, I have one friend that uses studs but he is an idiot he also uses studs on his jeep with an alcohol motor and races on frozen lakes....I just hate to have a set of tires dedicated to winter but your in a little different situation up there near the arctic circle like you are!!

In looking at them, the way they are set up, you can remove them during the off season, the reinstall for winter, they are claiming that they will last for several years...I am just trying to figure out if they work as good as some of the company websites say they do...either that or buy a extra set of rims and mount my old worn out tires on them and then put the chains on.

From what I have seen on the lakes they have a huge amount of grip, I don't know if they are special types of studs though. Also they do not remove them, the studs are on dedicated tires, I don't know specifically why though

My friends jeep has weight on the front to keep the front end on the ice, I know that it probably doesn't translate to an ATV but it certainly surprised me how much grip they can get on the ice. The biproduct of Ice racing is that there is an endless supply of shredded ice for mixed drinks afterwards...

I have a friend that installed them on his honda 400 that he plows with. The first season they were excellent however, he ran them all year round. They lost the sharp screw edges and become really useless. I guess if you ran two sets of tires and had a summer set to alternate with they would last longer.

I am partial to chains that have studded link's (which I can not find an image of but I have used them GRRRR) or the square sided links or even the V bar's which are not too bad.

I would think chains on the old tires will work better than studs on the new ones. Check out a set of studded diamond tire chains. They will probably work on the new set.

The chains I currently have are Moose Vbar chains, and they just don't cut it on the current steel belted radial tires I have on the bike, which is why I was looking at the studs, of course, I would not run them year round...the studs I was looking at, actually have a carbon tip embedded in the screw and they say they can be removed and reinstalled...in fact they show that in their demo video..

I used to race my RM 250 dirt bike on ice, I used to run {golddigger} ice studs the have a con-vexed head. They come in two lengths 1/4" 5 16" I ran a deadacatied set of tires, With 5 16" never really lost that many studs, Per race that is but I was beating the snot out of them. The ones that have the diamond in lay I would think would work good for you.
