Hopefully this picture works, but in case not, its a receiver end mounted on the side of my center console. Looks about the size for a stern mount light pole, but it has 3 recessed small holes in it.

That's a 3-pin stern light base, with female sockets. The matching light would have 3 male pins in the same pattern and size.

Its not a stern light base. Just a waterproof deck connection. Similar to this one but is is a 3 contact version. Had one on one boat that we used to connect to our VHF radio but remove it so the area was watertight.

And in a 12V system, the 3rd wire is for...?

Many stern/anchor lights have the ability to have the entire light on, or "all-around" while at anchor, or only the aft side on when underway. Hence, the 3rd wire...

You might want to check this thread out...

If you happen to have something that was switched. That's definitely not a base for a light...that's all I know. There is no material on the base to even hold up a light.

In that other post, the OP of this thread already says he has the rear 360 light. He doesn't need the one that clamps onto the front.

Best think for OP to do is to trace down the wires. That will explain a lot. If it goes to a light switch, then its for a light. If it goes straight to 12V through a fuse, then it was to power an accessory of some kind.

isn't that what i said? pull connector out and trace wires.just because that connector was designed for one application doesnt nessarilly mean thats what it was used for. I have worked on quite a few motor homes, you would be amazed at how i have seen things wired. boats don't usually have schematic only the engines. trace the wires
