Anybody use fixed trim tabs?

I have a 16' aluminum boat with a 50hp merc. and weighs about 600lbs including motor. The boat has a modified v and has a jack plate.
My question is, has anyone used angled aluminum for trim tabs to control porpoising? I was going to buy smart tabs, but someone told me to just use two pieces of 2" angled aluminum cut 8 inches long. Would this work since my boat is so light?

Thanks,
dsibl

I got a pair of cast aluminum tabs, I'll sell you cheap. You can set the initial angle but are not/do not adjust on the fly. If you boat at varying speeds they are horrible. I had em adjusted to keep the bow down on acceleration and they proceeded to beat me to death at speed.

Boomyal is correct! Anytime you create a permanent (fixed) hook in the hull, the overall effect is not good. Don't do it!
