I am in the process of converting my boat trailer from 2,000lb axles to 3500lb axles. Old tire/wheels where 5.3x12 rated @ 1080lbs per tire, boat weight is 4200lbs.
So I need new tires and wheels. Has anyone purchased the tire/wheel comb from southwest wheels trailer part.com, this place in Texas has great prices.
A 205/75R15 C (1820 lb rating) bias ply tire. This is a new tire and wheel sells for $76.95. For me shipping puts the price at $95.
They say it is a import tire.
Has anyone bought tires from this place and if so the same ones I am looking at buying.

The local tire store wants $47 + 70 for a wheel and import tire.
I am sure the import tire brands are not the same, but?

I am a little leary of the quality. However so far this place has beat anyones price. I just ordered a pair of axles, fenders, and such last night.

I dont know about the tires, can you get some used rims at a junk yard then buy the new tires local?

Id say you could go to my cousins tire shop in that area, but he wont give me a deal so I doubt he would anyone else either.

I was real pleased with the price/service/quality of the Loadstar's on galvanized rims I recently bought from Eastern Marine.

These are not bias ply tires. The "R" indicates they are radial tires, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Also, since they stated the brands of the "non-imports" I would take this to mean that whatever tire they can get, at the cheapest price, is what they will send you. This, again, is not necessarily a bad thing, but could be.

Their prices seem comparable to Easternmarine and Champion, but a lot will depend on their shipping and customer service.

I have found that both Easternmarine.com, and Championtrailers.com have very good customer service, have great information available about trailer operations and repairs, and take phone calls.

Let us know how it works out with them.

I second that, one of my trailers has a set of the Loadstars that I bought from Eastern Marine 2 or 3 years ago.

Easternmarine has load star 205 75D15C tires for
$581 (galv.) 5 tires
$547 (paint) 5 tires, this is shipped to oregon

Trailerpart.com has 205 75D15C tires import band unknown
$455 (paint) 5 tires, this is shipped to oregon

Champion trailers did not have 205 75 15 tire size on wheels. their prices looked high.
Now I have to decide if galv. and or loadstar tires are worth the extra cost.

I am going to also try the local wrecking yard for wheels for I buy anything. But Trailerpart.com I can get a wheel for $35, so the wrecking yard is going to have to have a good deal.

I bought a set of that size from trailerpart.com 3-4 years ago, but got the radial Marathons. The Marathon's were made in China and after seeing that, I wished I would have bought the "import" tries. Not worth the extra $$$ for made in China Marathons.

The only thing missing from the tires was balancing. $30 at the local tire shop fixed that.

In my own travels dealing with trailers of all kinds I personaly wouldn't go with anything other than a trailer raited tires. They are made to deal with abuse you wil be giving them down the road and on ramps. They are extra tough and can deal with the loads. Just one main thing to keep in mind CHECK TiRE PREASURE BEFORE EVERY TRIP. It will be literaly a life saver!!!
