I have eaten Oatmeal off and on for a long time. I have read where the Old Fashion brand is the best(Micro 1 cup per day). I have stopped eating it at times because it makes my muscles feel weak. I think it has an effect on your testosterone and Insulin levels. That may be the problem. Could be an allergy to it? Don't know really. I lift some weights when I exercise and have tested this more than a few times. But anyway, I now believe, that is minor compared to the benefits ie lower blood pressure, high fiber content, increased circulation etc. Says right there on the package that it has been clinically proven to help the Heart. I have noticed an improvement in 2 weeks in my health since I started back eating it ie increased circulation, calming of the nerves probably due to lower blood pressure. My wife tried it awhile back and her blood pressure tested much lower on her next doctor visit. I have poor eating habit so I have to do something positive, since I don't think I will change my eating habits LOL Weak or no weakness

Yep, a time or 2 a week ... sometimes mix it up with Cream of Wheat. Cook a banana, chunked up apple, blueberries, strawberries, etc. in with it from time to time. Yum! I prefer the steel cut oats to the regular oatmeal.

Say what?

Well maybe, if it was deep fried in bacon grease.

Yep, there is a possibility that there is...
Could be Celiac Disease, which has to do with how a persons body reacts to the Protein Gluten.
You can read about it here; Celiac Disease Facts: Symptoms, Causes, Diet, Tests, Treatments
Personally I would talk to my MD about if if it were a concern.

Supposedly strait Oatmeal is Gluten free, but according to what I just read, allot of the oatmeal makers will mix in other grains that contain Gluten.

Thanks for the info. I was reading about that awhile back and thought I had it and started eating Gluten free cereal. I didn't relate Gluten to Oatmeal. I will check into it. I haven't told a doctor about this problem. I rarely go to a doc but should. I need a checkup being in my 50s.

Re: Anyone Eat Oatmeal

Although most on this post probably knows this I'll mention it anyway. Eat only whole rolled or steel cut oatmeal for maximum benefit. "Instant" or "Quick" varieties have significant fiber processed out (that would be called "the good stuff") to make it cook quicker. Now your blood sugar is havoc. Isn't it great, you think you're doing the right thing by eating oatmeal, but those varieties might as well be made out of white flour!

Steel cut has been processed the least or if you want maximum benefit from oatmeal, buy oatmeal groats (the oatmeal kernel with the hard hull removed) and get the flaking machine to make your own fresh whole rolled oats! (I even mill my own wheat berries for flour...... I know....)

OK, it's probably too much information.........

For the record; 1/2 cup whole rolled oatmeal, 2 tbsp milled flaxseed, 1 tsp ground cinnamon (maybe more), 1/2 to 1/3 chopped walnuts, 1/4 chopped apple (usually Granny Smith's). 4 min 44 seconds in the micro.... add some milk and your there.

HOWEVER........ And this is important!....There is absolutely no substitute for BACON!!!!!
I consider that a VERY essential nutrient!

Re: Anyone Eat Oatmeal

This is what I eat from the large tube.
Product: Hot Cereals - Quick Quaker Oats | QuakerOats.com

All I know is, if I eat it on a regular basis, my cholesterol drops over a period of 6 months. Average drop, somewhere around 15 points. If I don't eat it on a regular basis, my cholesterol goes up.... I don't do the instant flavored oatmeal.

Re: Anyone Eat Oatmeal

As colbyt said above, I used to eat it as an excuse to gorge on brown sugar!

But since I cut my sugar consumption a number of years ago by about 95%, not so much any more. I can eat it a few times, then I get sick of it real quick & makes me want to gag, no matter what else I put in it. I've moved on to my killer bran muffin recipe for my standard grab & run breakfast. (Not that kind of run, my system is fine tuned to it now!) :encouragement:

Re: Anyone Eat Oatmeal

I try to eat it daily....helps the blood pressure, the cholesterol and fiber also helps. I used to be 250# now am 200# and I tribute a big part to my morning oatmeal. I had a lousy diet before that.
