I've searched the internet, and there are a half-dozen or so good plans for building a waste oil (crankcase) burner for heating garages, etc.

Anyone ever build one? Do you have plans to share?

Thanks all,

Way back before it was a no no I put an oil drip on my wood stove in the garage. It worked pretty well but needed constant babysitting. Later on I bought a waste oil furnace kit at a garage sale that used compressed air as a pump and a steel drum for combustion chamber. I gave it away before I ever tried it so I'm not sure how it worked.

Re: anyone ever build a waste oil burner

I put in a waste oil boiler in a place. Well I did the boiler piping and put the pex in the concrete. Somebody else sold them the waste oil burner. that burner needed compressed air, had a couple of oil preheaters to warm the oil before it got sent through the nozzle, and a whole lot of other safetys on it. I got talking to the guy who started it up and he said that if that burner didn't light instantly it would shut down because if waste oil were to build up in the combustion chamber and then it lit it could get real ugly. he said when fuel oil does that, the furnace shakes and rumbles and smokes real bad(which is true, I've seen it plenty of times) if waste oil did that it would blow up the boiler. I don't know if he is full of it or not, but ever since then I have been real leary of homemade waste oil burners
