Im thinking of building one but I really would love if i could make a similar sort of speed/skeet boat but one that fits 2 people. Not kneeling but sitting in a seat either behind one another or aside...

I really like the idea of building a under 10 foot speed/skeet fibreglass boat with a new 25-35hp tohatsu on the back but i can't seem to find any plans similar to the minimost/minimax but for 2 seater

Closest thing i found was this

http://www.svensons.com/boats/DoodleBug/

But unfortunately its not a fibreglass boat.. ;(

Incase you don't know what the minimax is heres a website dedicated to them

http://www.infoblvd.net/sah/mark_pugh7b.html ... Im not affiliated with the website just posting it cause its damn cool pakced with information

Press next in the top right hand corner to look through

:)

Thanks boys and gals

Think I've seen some plans for these in old Popular Mechanics magazines. I know that some plans for boats / hovercrafts are in the back section of the magazine ever month.

That is all I know...
GL

Jerico: Look for plans for "Maximus", also designed by William D. Jackson, I think. A 12' two seater that is basically an overgrown version of the minimax/minimost design. It's an old plywood design that was in Pop. Science or Pop. Mechanics. It's a cool design and every now and then I still think about building it.

Not sure what a Minimax looks like, but I am building a 2 seat (side-by-side) Squirt from Glen-L that is 10ft long.

They have other styles as well on the web site.

http://www.glen-l.com

I built a Minimax back in the late 60s and put an Evinrude 15hp twin on it. That was plenty of motor and scared me enough to paint a skull and cross bones on the side. It would easily plane with a 5hp. If memory serve right it cost about $50 to build including the fiberglass and resin...everything but motor. I sold it in mint condition for $25!

The only bad trait it had was swapping ends when jumping sandbars. I learned this the hard way but it didn't hurt anything...actually, that is when I painted the skull on.

My son and I built a minimax this winter. Still need steering and throttle to complete it. But its been fun and easy to build. We modified the plans a little, I hope that was not a mistake. We chose it because of the simplicity and low cost to build. I wanted something simple to practice on before doing something more difficult. For practice we covered it with a thin tight weave fiberglass and about a half gallon of epoxy to wet it out. I am now thinking of next winters project. Can't wait to try it out.
