Interested in what engine temps you are getting at idle, no-wake and WOT speeds... And I'm assuming these temps are measurements of the head metal below the top spark plug just like mine...

Hey KCLOST,

I thought we beat this to death last year but I know why you are concerned. Got the boat in the water last week end just in time for the big Northeaster! This was as bad as any hurricane i've been thru- but boat survived on the mooring.

Ok about temp. Idles at 160 -180, 200-210 at no-wake and 220 or higher (maybe 240) at WOT. But no overheat alarm, pee stream is hot but I can still hold my hand in it and I can hold my hand on the hot head. Don't see how it could possibly be running at the temps the gauge is showing unless it is measuring a hot spot. Maybe I'll pull the sensor out and test it in boiling water. There is another thread that suggests that if the poppet is leaking the top cylinders will run hot. The sensor in located at the top.

Today i checked that my warning horn was working by shorting the terminal end of the temp probe to ground. Horn goes off but i don't know if the overtemp sensor itself is working and can't figure out how to test it. Looks like i would destroy it if I try to remove it. It is set in what appears to be silicone rubber and not held in the a gasket and clamp.

When it comes to operating temp these engines seem to be a mystery!

Remember that your sensor is measuring metal not water... If you remove the water jacket on the head you will see what I mean, the temp sensor never touches water. The sensor itself is easy to remove by the way...

Your temps are about what I've been getting... 180 at idle, and up to 210+ at WOT... No alarms...
My overheat sensor is just like yours... And I also have no idea how to test it while it's installed on the head...

Thanks for the response and it is a mystery..... I just wanted to get this on record from other posters...

Anyone else?
