Bought a boat last week, alpha one gen 2 trim limt sensor wires are not hooked up, wires are there just dangling. Curious if anyone has experience with these things. Should i just put in a trim guage? (New to boat so im not sure how gauge is tied in either.

Trim senser is a rheostat, which send varying voltage to gauge, as motor trims/tilts. I have found them to be unreliable and inaccurate. In additon, proper trim varies with load and load distribution in the boat. It is best to trim boat by feel. When you have trimmed to achieve good handlingand proper trim angle, you have optimized it.

while the trim position switch/sensor and gauge are nice to have operable, the trim limit switch/sensor is a safety must have. trim up/out to much while underway and you will lose control of your boat. not to mention possibly destroying your drive. check out mercstuff.com or sterndrives.com

For what it's worth....I bought new switch/senders last year and wired them up as per manual. The limit switch does what it's supposed to by limiting up travel while using trim switch, but my trim guage is still inop for some reason. Probably the guage or who know what else, but as long as you have a functioning limit switch, you'll be good. The more you run your boat, the more you'll trim by 'feel' anyway, so a functioning guage is just eye candy in my opinion. Replacing them is a real pain, however. And replacing them is a must, usually. They are prone to corrosion, and the wiring is usually corroded to the point of needing replacement as well. If your bellows and water intake hose are more that a few seasons old, may as well do those and the bearing while your in there...

I'd say that if your limit is working, live without the trim guage!
