I'm looking at a used 2001 Chris Craft 28 with a Volvo Penta 8.1L GSi with Captain Call exhaust.
I've owned nothing but VP engines before but never a GSi motor. Any suggestions or thinks I should be conceded about?
The starboard side has rust that needs to be addressed. Hopefully it hasn't injestes water in exhaust ports. Mechanical survey will find that out.

I had the 8.1 in my 2002 Chevrolet truck. She had 180,000 miles on it when I sold it. Never a problem, and was great for heavy towing. One thing on the 8.1 engines, they use a little oil. Even when new. I added a quart about every 1500 miles from day one. This engine is a big step up from the older 454 engines. Dave-R

I have the 8.1L in my '03 Yukon and use it almost exclusively for towing...~138K on the odometer and as Dave-R stated , it uses a little oil. Should be decent power...in GSi trim should be 375hp, could be 410hp as well...I forget?). I'd plan on carrying extra oil and checking it often!

Great motor. A ton of torque.

If you want more power, Raylar Marine has a whole top end kit
