1. No 2. Don't waste your money. Buy some AC Delco marine plugs and be done with it. While some specialty plug might have its place in certain esoteric applications the GM engine that Volvo uses isn't one of those.

If I recall that takes MR43LTS. If you want to knock me for telling you not to bother even though I havent used them, I worked in a parts house thru college and beyond, turned my fair share of wrenches both auto and marine and have tried all manner of fancy plugs. For the most part, the plug that came in the engine was the best choice. Even though Volvo calls for champions for certain years, maybe even that one, that's one of those cases where a different brand plug works better. In this case AC Delco, which of course is what GM intended for the engine to begin with.

Ayuh,.... Ditto that,.... AC Delcos are Chevy plugs for a Marine Chevy motor,...

The "M" indicates an alloy body, which won't rust in,...

Those plugs probably work fine but a spark is a spark and that's all it is, a spark that begins the ignition of the air fuel mixture. Once the spark is out it's done it's job. There's all sorts of ways to create a spark, and a lot of those ways can be used to separate people who don't know any better from their money. Nothing wrong with charging 18 bucks for a spark plug, it's a semi-free market economy. As always it is caveat emptor. This stuff reminds me of that Slick 50 stuff. Sounds good and all but all it really does is make your money really slippery so it comes out of your wallet faster.
Look at it this way, if so called stuff was so great wouldn't the manufacturers use it?

Thanks for the input. I have heard the AC Delco is better than the Champion plugs. My question is if a spark is just a spark why do people say champion, which Volvo recommends, are inferior to the delco plugs? I think Delco is the way to go. What wires would you guys go with?

For one Champions will rust. The AC MR series are for the marine environment. The alloy doesn't corrode and get stuck in the head. Not sure why Volvo used them. I'll guess it was a cost thing and Champion underbid AC Delco.

If I remember right, I believe Don S. recommended the 41-993 plugs for fuel injected applications and the MR43LTS plugs for carbed applications.

I think the plug and filter manufacturers pay to be recommended by manufacturers. Fram pays or did pay to be recommended in automobile owners manuals. As far as Champions, it is my opinion they are poor quality and it is not uncommon to have bad plugs right out of the box.
AC Delco are consistently good, I've never had a bad plug right out of the box with any brand other than Champion. I don't know why. Champion is owned by Federal Mogul since 1989 and have always been made in the USA.

champions are some of the lowest quality plugs. I would run the AC delco or NGK's
