Anyone know Newport News, VA?

My wife is considering a Physical Therapy job in that area.<br /><br />I'm also looking for IT work and was wondering how the market is there, especially with defense companies in the Hampton Roads area.<br /><br />Is Newport News a good place to live, or does everyone commute elsewhere? How is commuting in this area?<br /><br />Thanks for any input.<br /><br />Marty

Marty I made the mistake of coming home that way once to take the bay bridge tunnel during rush hour. Absolutly nuts! But I do not know what public transportation is like it may be a good alternative.

I spent a fourth of July there not so long ago, had a few lovely days with a luscious young girl there (hey, Im 41, 29 is jail bait to me!)<br /><br />The main arteries are good sized roads, but coming off the tunnel, thats a cluster f*** no matter what.<br /><br />I would hold off til after this hurricane blows thru, might get you a good deal on a fixer upper<br /><br />just drag it back to the property it belongs on first!<br /><br />

Have several contractor friends from Newport News and Williamsburg - they love it there. Have vacationed with them the last couple of years. It is a nice place, alot to do, lots of nice racks on the deer (hunting is important to me), traffic wasn't too bad outside of Hampton, VA Beach.<br /><br />That's all I can tell ya.

Lived in the area for two years when I was in the Coast Guard. Loved the area. Excellent fishing, lots of things to do with the family but traffic on the Norfolk/Chesapeake side is indescribable. On the Hampton Roads side it is only terrible if crossing the tunnels.
