Took the crank position sensor out and lost the bolt (not me, but now it is my problem.)

If anyone knows what the specs are on that bolt it would save me some fumbling around in the bilge figuring it out by trial and error. Mechanic wants to order OEM part from Mercruiser dealer... about ten bucks and it won't get here 'till Tuesday at the earliest!

Must be something like an 8-32 or 10-32 or maybe a 10-24 about a half inch long.....or is it metric?

How hard can it be?

Answer: It's a BOAT!

Thanks guys!

Already tried that. Not listed as anything but "screw" and a part number and price. BTW p/n is 10-884018001 previoulsy 10-884018

Item #11 in this diagram: price $7.81 plus shipping and waiting when I'll bet my local hardware has one in stainless steel for less than a buck.

I know it is the same for all Chevy Votec engines of about the 2000 year vintage. I also highly doubt it is any sort of special custom thread or head. Pretty sure its just a run-of-the-mill fastner.

I'll just take an assortment with me and go by trial and error I suppose. I was hoping to avoid that because the boat is out on a mooring and sure as Murphy lives I'll have a coffee can full of the wrong size fasteners with me!

Is there a GM dealer close by or a salvage yard that you could source one from?

the bolt will be metric

I know it does get torqued to 8nm. most likely an M5 in grade 10.9, or an M6 in grade 9.8

Yep.... metric: M6 X 1
I bought a handful of close sized fasteners at the local hardware store to take along, all of them SST. Total coast about 2 bucks. The M6X1 is the one that fit.
