Hi again y'all! I am working on this 14" Duracraft and I am wondering what these little things are for? They look like the are made to hold a pole of some sort...maybe a Bimini top? Also....they have screwed a flat top aluminum platform on both sides....has anyone seen anything like this ?

Can't say for certain, but some times folks install things like that to hold a selection of fishing rods for trolling for crappie or schooled fish. It fits into the hole on both sides and allows the person to set a lot of rods out. However, It really is hard to say. It could easily be for other things as well... JMHO!

Yeah.. I knew what the rod holder is because the other half is further up in the boat. I also know that flat thing is a aluminum covered piece of plywood and it is on both sides. I was curious about the oar lock and I appreciate the clarification on that. I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what they might have been trying to achieve with those platforms on the sides. I am going to pull them off of there because I can't think of a thing they would be useful for. Thanx y'all!

i'm not a fisherman, but if i was, i might think that'd be a good place to cut up my fish and though the unwanted parts overboard.... if i were a fisherman.....

Only a couple of things I can think of that those pads might have been useful for ... 1) maybe to act as a step if you sidled up to the dock juuuuuuuuuust right. 2) Maybe to help hold oars in place if it got rowed a lot and you didn't want the handles hangin' over the side. And lastly mighta' been an okay spot for cleanin' fish while you're out on the water.

Have you head the saying "Fish or cut bait"? Hint - It isn't for part one. LOL
