Anyone one with similar problems?

I have a 2006 Bass Tracker with a TrailStar trailer. It is a single tire trailer. Only has about 4000 miles on the tires. My problem is that the last 2 treads on the inside of the tire are worn down about 1/2 lower than the rest of the tire. Now that I have noticed it I had to drive all the way back to Indiana from Minnesota worrying about it. We made it okay and I spoke with a mechanic from Bass Pro shops who advised that it could run anywhere from $600-$1,500 to fix. Obviously he would have to look at it first. Has anyone had similar problems and what happened?

Interesting, most boat trailers have at least 2 tires. (sorry I couldn't resist). How much pressure are you running? They should be inflated to the max indicated on the sidewall of the tires.

Did the mechanic at BPS say why it would cost so much? What would he have to do?

I think the max air pressure on the sidewall is used when the weight of the load on that tire is at the max weight (that is also listed on the sidewall).

Sounds like you have unintended reverse camber from a bent axle.

Measure exact distance between the tops of the tires and the bottoms of the tires. If the tops are closer together replace the axle with one rated for at least 30% above the trailer load. www.championtrailers.com

Tires should be inflated to the pressure on the sidewall at all times, regardless of load.

Thanks for the responses. The tires are inflated to the max. at 50. The mechanic quoted me $600 to replace the axle. But he could not diagnose the problem without taking a look at it first. He also said something about replacing the spindles?
Yes Jb the tires leaning outward at the bottom. Once I saw how the tire was worn that was the first thing that I noticed. Most of our fishing is done locally. We have only taken 3 trips to Minn. in the last 3 years so the tires don't have many miles. I don't know if this was a defect and we got it this way from the dealer or how it happened.

Took the wind out of my sails... I was going say " having only one tire is the problem"...


Also, jack the trailer up one side at a time and try to wiggle the tire top to bottom then side to side and check the spring hangers and mounts.

Hope you don't have to lay out a bunch of cash.

I'm wondering about the axel alignment, is it square to the hitch? Measure from the center of the hitch ball to the axel on each side of the trailer. The measurement should be identical.

camber is the problem will probably need new axle designed for load

Agree with everyone that that axle is saggin in the middle basically from either being underated or bent causing the bottom of the tires to be farther apart than the tops so to speak but...honestly 4000 miles on a set of trailer tires is pretty good honestly. I'd personally throw 2 new tires on her for $150 er so installed and do that every 4000 miles. It's really not a safety concern just a tire wear issue.....just my opinion..
