This is from a 1957 Evinrude lightwin. Is this something special? Any input is appreciated

That's a 'weedless' lower unit.

we have a couple of those engine's. It's amazing the weed patch they will go through. One of our's is a weedless folding model. They are great little engine's in every way.

Really common in the Light Twin class motors. The weedless lower unit came out in the late 40's on several other models and was built into the early 80's. I had a Light Twin and a JW with it.
