I found this beauty at harbor freight for 100 bucks, apparently INCLUDING SHIPPING ...<br /><br />I really dont feel like rigging the one woman iboating widow parades garage for 220, so ill leave the five horse Craftsman Compressor where it is .. <br /><br />but this thing looks sweet for the money, working on boats and spraying some paint, just want to make sure that its going to work in the light duty capacity I have planned for it!<br /><br />its oilless, which is good for spraying, and 115 pounds should do the job as far as running those air tools that are lying around doing nothing, lol, ah jeeze, nothing like a half inch air gun going off at five in the morning to pisss the neighbors off! <br /><br />air compressor<br /><br />edit ... looking at wrong one, not oil less, but for the money I can get an oil filter for it!

Yea Ray, anything over $50.00 is shipped free.<br />Although I have a store close to me and another about 100 miles from me, if I need something fast, I just go pick it up.

Yea, I guess that's how they can ship high $ items for free, to charge big shipping on small $ items.

My $99.00 2HP compressor from harbor freight is one helluva lot better machine than the $250.00 name brand one it replaced.

I had a small compressor like that and it worked great for small stuff, that said it was not really good when you needed to run an air tool for any amount of time. The thing just would not keep up. It got to be very frustrating. I would go with at least a 5HP with a 25 gal. tank. That will do just about anything you want it to.

Re: Anyone tried Harbor Freight Compressors?

my days of running a 1 " Budd Gun are over, lol, I just want to be able to sand blast some parts, run a 3/8 air gun (much much much more handy than those monster 1/2 CP and Mac guns ... Ive got em, but if I have really heavy duty stuff to do, I do have a monster Craftsman compressor that is up to snuff for running anything out there ... this one is for the g/fs house, the garage is 110, dunna wanna deal with 220, and that thing is so damnned big, it would hog up half the garage anyway, I am looking at the bigger 110 compressor they have for 169, 4.5 horse, lotsa flow and an upright, but I dont know if the garage circuit could handle it, the 2 horse is 11 amps, that big basttard would be a fuse blower from hell ... eh, could always wrap foil around the fuse ... hehehe, noooooo, I know better<br /><br />I just dont want to buy a clunker, I dont mind investing a hundred bucks, but I dont want to throw it away ... it sounds like this is a good one tho, I guess Ill place the order! :D

I ended up doing a price war between Costco and Eagle. Costco had it wholsesale, and Eagle (at that time) would match and beat by 15% (or whatever it was)<br /><br />I got a Devilbiss for less than $200. <br />6 hp 20 gallon.<br /><br />Works great.<br /><br />Just remember one thing when going to Harbor Freight, or any discount tool store:<br /><br />"YOUR CHEAP TOOL IS YOUR MOST EXPENSIVE TOOL"<br /><br />My Grandad taught me that years ago, and I've always stuck to it.<br /><br />I'm not bashing Harbor Freight, I have a few of their tools myself. Just be careful.<br /><br />H.

Re: Anyone tried Harbor Freight Compressors?

We have a new harbor freight stoe about 50 miles from me. They have a bunch of junk, and then again they have a lot of real good bargains. In some items, as long as it will do the job, quality is not important, and they have some knockoffs of expensive items that you do not need often enough to pay the price of the quality product, and then they have items that will do the job, and the price is cheap enough you can buy it, use it till it wears out, then get another (nail guns, and staple guns). :D :D :D :D

that being said, you like your compressor right lakeman? seems like its the one I want to get ...<br />100 is doable, 200 is not, if so I would get that big un and boost the wiring to the garage!<br /><br />when I am rich now, diff story ... get a two stage super compressor that will run an engine like a steam engine, lol, theyll scrable to get another reactor on line when I power up the shop!!!

Re: Anyone tried Harbor Freight Compressors?

One thing to check before buying a compressor is the requirements of your air power tools, pressure is one thing and CFM is another, cheap auto store tire inflators can deliver 200 PSI but thier CFM rating is next to nothing. CFM is cubic feet of air per minute that it can deliver at a constant rated pressure, many air power tools need more CFM at a rated pressure than this can deliver. The tool label should show the requirements.

Re: Anyone tried Harbor Freight Compressors?

thanks for the tip SS<br /><br />I think the only tool in my arsenal that will take a hit will be the air board, its a hog and uses vast quantities of air<br /><br />I like to use a breaker bar and a torque wrench, the only time tools really blow the air out is when the hammers are stalled and trying to get some purchase on the offending fastener ... my tools of choice are a 3/8 ratchet and a like sized air gun .. for something really stuck, the MAC gun comes out, but it can usually rip it right off, its a brute ... and the compressor that I am looking at should give it the few seconds of intensity that I need<br /><br />I do understand the need for long term flow (hence the Monster back in the Hill, but that beast is better suited for running jack hammers, lol, I think the lil guy will do the trick, I was just concerned about it cycling three times and going up in Bangladesh smelling flames.<br /><br />seems like the brand they have is out there in the shops of The Gang here on the boards, and they seem happy with them, good enough for me<br /><br />oh yeah, heads up on that Craftsman 76 piece set, it rocks, loads of Speed Lok bits including nut drivers and a 1/4 inch socket adapter, AND a 7.2 2 speed reversible drill, definitely does the job ... if it doesnt, the Quantum and the Milwaukee Magnum Screw Shooter have it covered, but Im impressed, its a steal at 70 bucks (60 plus tax and shipping)<br /><br />the spade bits have edge cutters for you wood working fanatics, and the entire kit is fantastic, they had 70 left last week, I guess there are a few left

castawayray, I use mine with the 1/2 inch air wrench I also got for $29.95 from harbor freight to rotate the wheels on my pickup, and auto, and also use it for the nail guns and stapler that I use on my little projects. :D :D

Re: Anyone tried Harbor Freight Compressors?

not only that, but that pnumo pop riveter is likely going to come in handy if I have to tear the top off of the Crestliner<br /><br />no doubt, they are sub par compared to the big guns, and if I still had the mobile tune up service going, I would get a good make, cuz ya do get what you pay for, but in this situation, it sounds like a case of good enough for me<br /><br />thanks for the feedback!<br /><br />

Re: Anyone tried Harbor Freight Compressors?

If given a choice between oil-less and one with oil, one thing to remember is that the oil-less compressors are sooooo LOUD you will crap yourself every time it kicks on
