In the process of removing my rotten transom today I decided I'd try using my pressure washer to remove the old wood. Worked flawlessly and made the whole project take about 1/2 hour.

Just thought I'd share.

I would like to see some pictures of that process! :D That is some rotten wood to just pressure wash it out. Just what made you start to question the structural stability of the transom to start with?

yuppers....if it was totally toast.....a good fan will work

but if there is any structural stability at all its a really tough go......make sure you remove all the little peices or the new one wont bond with the hull

that must been fun to watch :D

cheers

Part of the top cap was broken away and you could see saturated wood.

Apparently you've never used one. If your pressure washer is not of the dimestore variety you can chew up new wood with no effort. Set the nozzle right and you could drill right through the fiberglass as well.

Feel free to do it the slow way, but I've got the old wood out, the new wood in just waiting for glass and I have about 5 hours into the project.

Wonder how that would work on old foam? I know that guys sometimes cut their toes off with the ones at the refinery thinking they will just blast some dirt off their boot. Cuts the whole boot clean off. These are used to cut the coke out of the processing plant pipelines. Pretty powerful stuff.

Worth a shot. I just blasted around in there while my father held the shop vac hose nearby and the wood shredded like pulled pork.

Hahahah! "like pulled pork"!

I used a pressure washer to strip the paint off my house. You have to br careful. I splintered some good wood at the beginning.

First of all I started to wonder if the 'ol boy had any fingers left. Then I started thinkin about a bar-b-q. :p No, not the fingers, the pulled pork!
