I'm thinking of purchasing Fugawi Marine ENC to hook my GPS to my laptop. Price is reasonable ($200) and the Marine version includes full street-level maps of the entire USA as well as the ability to gps-navigate using the free ENC charts. I have used the free Fugawi ENC viewer and like it. Just wondered if anyone could provide any opinions that has or does use it.

Thanks!

Re: Anyone Using FUGAWI?

It was briefly evaluated by Powerboat Reports last year. As I recall, it was a no-frills application that has everything you need for navigating without breaking the bank. Used for boat and/or car. Charts and updates are free. It can use anything for charts including the free NOAA vector charts. Download them from NOAA’s web site…they are the most accurate charts. You can also scan your own paper charts and load them into the Fugawi application by identifying a few known lat/lon points. Fugawi is probably the least expensive way to get into PC based navigation with a serious software application.

There are two versions of the Fugawi; GPS and ENC. I don’t know the difference between them. If you research the difference, please post back here.

At the other end of the spectrum is Nobletec. The full blown Nobletec application can do anything, including laundry, cleaning windows, change the baby's diaper, but the price tag is way up there.

The GPS version is the one that comes with the street maps. The ENC version is simply the full GPS version with the additional ability to use ENC Vector charts. Can you point me to any reviews online?

Rodbolt, enlighten me on the
fugawi method of navigation
Thanks!

Come on guys, the Fugawis were the indian tribe on F Troop. I don't know about you, but I was too young to get the joke at the time.
