AQ 125B Swap

Hey guys,

Okay, I recently found out that the camshaft on my 1985 AQ 125B was pitted, the oil pump had seized and none of the parts to rebuild this engine exist.

So, since there are no parts for this motor any longer I'd rather not put one of these motors back in.

What are my options for an engine swap and where can I find these options?

I'd prefer a turn-key option that will mount directly to the bell housing and work with the 270 outdrive that is currently in the boat.

Thanks,
Keith

That engine was a very common engine in Volvo cars. Your engine is either a B21 or B23. Should be able to find most of the internal engine parts very easily.

Re: AQ 125B Swap

How do I find out if the block is a B21 or B23? Does it matter or do they have the same internal parts?
If these parts are so easy to find, why does it say all the parts are obsolete on volvo penta parts lists and the like?
I found a used AQ131A, AQ125A and AQ125B on ebay for pretty good prices. If I need parts for these engines, where do I find them? Is there a parts supplier you guys know of?
Thanks,
Keith

I finally found out that the 125A is the B21 (2.1L) and the 125B is the B23 (2.3L)

AQ125A vs AQ125B Camshaft

Does anyone know if the camshafts for these two motors are interchangable?
Thanks,

Re: AQ 125B Swap

You may need to go on a Volvo forum. I am thinking that when the B23 came out for the car, it also came with a twin cam and I am not sure when they did that for the marine engines.

Great resource Fun Times!
It looks like I can just get a completely rebuilt head with everything included for $300.
Thanks!
