Ok so a standard 351 volvo penta connecting to a 270 would look like this:

Mine has a part that the volvo shop and the other guys around here can't identify. Can any of you tell me what part this is? Its basically just an extension. Mine is reusable but I'm curious.

Also note... i installed a part upside down :) It works but puts more stress on the drive bellows. I will be correcting this error when I do my next engine swap (soon).

Some of the early Volvo Ford V8's did use a bolt on bearing housing, it allowed them to use a standard inboard bellhousing on the engine, you could unbolt that and slap a Velvet Drive right in her....

Say Ford doesn't work out, if I decided to put a Chevy in...
1) would that intermediate extension bolt to the chevy bell housing?
2) if not, will I have to move the engine back 6"s to meet the outdrive?
3) is the VP chevy bell housing different from the ford?
4) is there a good ford to chevy conversion thread around here?

You would need to get a later V6/V8 one piece housing to install a Chev, as they are different...
