Hi,

I just got a 1983 bayliner which is powered by an AQ125A Volvo Penta. The engine will start OK so long as the throttle is about 3/4 forward. Once started I can throttle back to about 3000 rpm but if I go any slower the engine just dies. Once warmed up it is OK and idles at about 900 rpm. The result of this is I have to sit at the dock with the engine screaming for about 5 minutes before I can throttle back enough to get it into gear.

I had a look at the carb to see how to operate the choke and found that there isn't one fitted! This confuses me because every other gas engine I own (lawn tractor, car, snow blower .....) has some method of compensating for the engine being cold. Am I missing something off my carb or is it supposed to be like that? The original owners manual makes no mention of a choke and it tells you to idle at 1500 rpm when first started so I know the 3000 rpm is wrong.

Thank you.

Andy
