Hello everyone. I inherited a 1972 Glastron V164 with a VO AQ130. Taking it out for our first run this weekend and I wanted to change out fluids before hand. I have specs on engine oil, but nothing on lower unit oil. Anyone familiar with this setup recommend an oil and quantity to replace it with would be much appreciated. And also, anyone familiar with the engine recommend what fuel these engine like the best. Many thanks

The AQ series single prop Volvos use same as engine oil in the drives. In liters, around 2.6.

DuoProps use the heavier 90w gear oil.

To refill the drive raise it all the way and remove the rear shift cover, there is a large Allen plug to pour the oil in. As MAC said be sure that you put the amount of oil he mentioned. For the remainder to top it off squirt the oil down the dipstick hole.
The best way is with a bug sprayer and fill it from the bottom. The thread is 3/8” 16 and a fill plug fitting can be made from a short piece of 3/8” steel tubing by running it through a threading die, you only need about a 1/4” of thread and some rubber hose to connect the sprayer nozzle to the piece of tubing.

Make sure you get the drain screw and hex plug nipped up well. The drain screw in particular (with the rubbish VP o ring) is known to let water in. I used to use a Mercruiser fibre seal and the o ring...then a blob of silicone over the screw every year.

If you don't know how long ago the outdrive was serviced, it's a good idea to perform the pressure and vacuum tests described in the manual. It's better to find out about any leaks now, and get them repaired, than to go through a season with water in the oil.
