i have a 87 Volvo Penta AQ131A, just recently changed the oil and now since I changed it I have oil coming from the oil trap spitting oil onto the carb.. before the oil change it was totally fine.. ran good and had no problems.. now after the oil change it spits oil out around 2200-2500 rpm.. does anyone know what could cause this?.. I noticed from a previous post said the oil was milky, the oil coming from mine isn’t milky or doesn’t have any white smoke coming from it like the previous post stated.. could it be I might have put too much oil when I changed the oil?.. not sure what it could be.. maybe a bad head gasket like the previous said stated?

thanks for the time to help me! Pretty new at this :)

if you have oil coming out the breather tubes and spraying your carb, you have drain-back issues internal to your motor or you have a lot of blow-by

how much oil did you put in the motor?
how much did you extract out?
new to you motor or you had it for a while?
what is the compression readings?

Ive had my boat for about 3 years now and never had a single problem until I changed the oil.. I’m not sure on how much oil I put in or taken out.. also checked the dipstick and it doesn’t give me a correct reading on how much the motor has.. (the oil goes all up along the dipstick like it gets spread or is pulled up the dipstick as I am pulling the dipstick out).. I have not done a compression test on it yet, my mechanic is finally coming over this weekend to look at it.. I wanted to get some adivce so he had an idea of where to start lol

I think you have to much oil in it. Pull the dip stick out and leave it out for 20 minutes or more. This will give it enough time to drain fully back into the pan.

If it turns out its to full and your sucking it out thru the dipstick, then you may need a new marine dipstick tube. If someone replaced it with an automotive one, it would be to short. If your using a plastic tube down the dipstick tube, you might be putting to much in or not enough

As Scott & Alldodge said it looks like you have too much oil in the engine.
In regards to the dipstick, I had quite a few come to me with a broken tube still in the block. Volvo came out with a better replacement. Getting the broken tube out is not hard. You may have something that was patched together giving the wrong reading.

Sorry didn’t mean to say I don’t know how much I put in, I wasn’t sure how much I pulled out but I put around 3 quarts in it because it didn’t seem like I pull a whole lot out and wasn’t able to measure how much I pulled out of it

my Mechanic told me to pull the valve cover off and see if I have any clogged oil drain ports.. he said maybe in valve cover sediment could be blocking ports to return to oil pan
