Hi there, got a timeing belt issue that I havnt been to really find info on what im looking for.
so my aq131, the timeing belt had slipped, replaced the belt retimed the cam, every thing seemed swell on the brief dry fires, put all back together, and ran some water to outdrive,
after running it for a few mins I upped the engine speed and timeing slipped again. Now I already planned on replacing the tensioner, but I'm wondering if it's worth the time and money to replace the cam.gear as well, visually my current cam gear looks fine.

Normally a belt will not damage the gear. I would use it again being your saying it looks fine

As long as the cam, crank & distributor belt gears are not rusted they should be good. What is wrong with your tensioner?
Was your old belt damaged?
I serviced those engines and never had one throw off the belt after I replaced one
The new belts had the timing marks and to make sure everything was lined up I would spin the engine with the plugs out, after about 25 revolutions the belt would “walk” around to the original starting point. If it did not then I would re set the belt and check it again. Sometimes the tensioner would cause the belt to jump a tooth.

The boat has seen some saltwater but the timeing gears have very minimal corrosion
I was more less looking to see if the cam.gear.was a known issue on these engines
thanks.guys

If there is ANY rust on the gears it will eat the belt up in a very short time. They are not hard to remove and have them glass bead blasted.

Tensioner and new belt came in any tricks for putting the new tensioner together having a hell of a time getting it back together
