First, thanks to everyone that posted replies to my starter issue post yesterday. I'm new to this site and have already found it an invaluable resource for all things boats.
My starter issue was what every marina I took it to said it wasn't - the starter. I was able to find a new one, dumped it in, and the engine cranked beautifully.
Now that I got it to crank, I'm having a starting issue. It will want to start, but will sometimes backfire and die. It'll run on its own power for 3 to 5 seconds and cut out. Plugs look good, distributor cap, rotor, and points are brand new.
My question - the boat's been sitting for a while. Is it more likely to be a timing issue or bad gas? I've got a feeling it could be gas, but I'm not positive. Are there any indications of gas that's gotten too old?
Thanks in advance!
