Compression test went bad yesterday. Found 20 psi on the #4 cylinder. Removed head and found piston and sleeve damaged and 2 bad lifters. Don't know if I should keep pursuing project now. Will keep posting....

Sorry to hear about the damage.:(

When you say "Sleeve" Are you saying the cylinders are sleeved? That could perhaps work to your advantage.

Was the boat a salt water or freshwater boat?

I don't know about it being in salt or fresh....but judging by the looks of the cylinders, I would bet to say saltwater. It does appear to have sleeves. I was thinking about honing the walls. Do you think I might be able to get it re-sleeved? I still have not seen the cranks condition...hoping it looks good. Waiting for friends to get back so I can pull the engine. I will keep posting. Know of any websites to beg for old boats parts?

I don't know whether of not you can resleeve but it seems like it could be a good option if possible.

I think your on the right track however. tear it down and get a good look at the rest of the internals. Find a good machine shop to look at the block to see if it can be resleeved, honed, bored, just fixed in the most cost effective way.

The salt water question was to get an idea of the condition of the water passages in the engine and exhaust system.

Fortunatly, the exhaust manifold are still available right here on Iboats through Volvo Penta for just over $2700!!!:eek:

#5 and #23 on this link

If the boat spent much time in salt water the manifold and elbow may be shot as well.

When you remove the Manifold take the elbow off the end and examine the passages and the surfaces where they mate to check for corrosion. take pictures so we can have a look.

Good Luck.
