Hi all was hoping to get some good advice please..

Refurbed head fitted and i am at the stage of fitting the camshaft carrier, i have the OEM manual and understand that a fine Gasket seal around the edges being careful not to block any oilways, but also the diagrams it points to Gasket sealant going on the middle circles (Spark plug holes) which already has the o-rings fitted to the head to seal this part.. so i am a little confused as i would of thought either o-rings or sealant but not both.. but i could be wrong

Any help or advice is much appreciated

Thanks Jim

i have done this many times, i actually use the 16v head on my volvo race car and am very familiar with it. i personally only use the volvo pink stuff to seal it, expensive but worth it.

the best way to apply it is with a small paint roller, evenly distributing the anaerobic sealant. you don't want it on very thick, just uniform with a slight tack in the texture. if you apply it this way you will not block any oil passages.

now, i've applied the gasket both ways, with or without using it where the o-rings seal. neither way leaks into the spark plug holes but i like having it there so the area around the o-rings is also sealed up tight.

don't worry, it won't hurt anything applying the sealant to the o-ring contact area.

looking at my pictures from when i split the head last, i didn't have any sealant there, that proves it's not needed, however i know i have done it both ways.
