aq211a with 290sp trim pump

just replaced my trim pump to my 290 outdrive, i have been using penatrating oil on the hydrolic lines all last season and everything came apart easily, i was worried the flair nuts were going to twist the steel piping but everything went well, what type of fluid do i use, the old pump said motor oil or trans fluid, the oil that came out was clear, also my pump does not have a plastic oil container the oil is stored in the pump housing

Volvo recommended engine oil (same as engine) for your pump, and back then Volvo was recommending 10W30 oil in the engine.

thanks don it looked like motor oil that came out when i disconnected the hydrolic lines, is this system self purging or do i have to bleed the air out somehow

They are self bleeding just by operating, just keep the reservoir full.
