AQ270 B outdrive ?looking for prop cone ?NO SCREW ?standard hub with locking spaces on cone.

I have been pulling my hair out looking for a Prop Cone for my 1973 Chris Craft Lancer, 307 QLV, outdrive is the AQ270, B -I think it is a B. It is a 1973 boat and the outdrive is a standard hub, but the prop cone DOES NOT have the spacer/line cutter like the ones shown on any of the current Prop Guides for Volvo or Michigan Wheel. I have talked with dealers and Volvo on finding them and they continue to give me a prop cone number of #8504045 which has the screw/allen bolt which mine does not have.

My prop cone has small locking spaces where the locking washers tabs are to be pushed into the cone itself. I think the outdrive I have must be a very early AQ270 as no one seems to know about that style what so ever.

Any ideas of a part number or who to call to get a replacement? I have a current one on the boat, but would like a replacement part just in case. Any other thoughts on this part, use of a different prop cone or something I am not thinking about?

I have a photo from the maunal of the outdrive, prop, washer just before the prop cone goes on in case anyone wanted to see that to help jog their memory?

Follow the links below the posts for similar threads. You have the unthreaded short shaft (I have that one as well). An hub from a 250 without the bolt hole should work. You don't need the spacer. Props are the same and don't care about the shaft length as the spline surface is the same.

Apparently there was an AD issued to drill and tap the shaft for the bolt. Not everyone thought it was necessary and it's not that big a deal.

I replaced the prop cone on my 1972 Volvo 270 outdrive a few years ago. I had the same setup as you do...short hub, non-threaded shaft and the prop cone had indents on it for the lock washer's tabs to go into. What I replaced that old cone with was two things:

1) Prop cone (Volvo 854045 or Sierra 18-4210; both without indents)
2) Spacer (Volvo 851261 or Sierra 18-4213)

The spacer attaches to the cone giving you the indents where you lock washer's tabs go into. Yes, the cone has a hole in the end, which is not used but that does not matter.
