AQUA PATIO AP220 - Master switch on console is turned OFF, this should turn off all accessories switches however for the third time since 2009 the accessory switches stay on. Is this a typical problem with Aqua Patio? Dealer replaced 3 relays the first two times. I think I will attempt the repair this time. Is there a root cause for this reoccurring? Permanent repair? Thanks Dennis

Was the MASTER switch ever checked/replaced? I would have checked it first. These are generally cheaply made switches and therefore subject to failure in either the closed or open position. Closed in your case. Remove the switch and replace it with ANY toggle switch. Or use an ohm meter to repeatedly cycle the switch to see if there are random times the closed condition remains with the switch OFF. The only other causes would be +12 volts being intermittently fed to the relay from another source.

Silver tip, didn’t have the ohm meter on board so with the power disconnected I work the power master switch back and forth multiple times. Then took each wire off the relay (one at a time) and replaced it. Everything seems to be back to normal. Thanks for the help. I might replace the switch for the heck of it.

Replacing the switch for the heck of it is not why you should replace it. IT is the the problem. Removing and replacing wires on the relay does nothing other than clean the contacts a little. The relay would need to be stuck on the closed (ON) position to drain the battery and cleaning the contacts does not fix that problem. A constant 12v feed causes the dead battery because the switch didn't shut off the 12 volt supply. What I wanted you to do was pull the 12 volt feed from the switch or the relay and then over time, see if the battery dies. If it does, not the switch. If it doesn't, replace the switch.

Geeesh, the dealer replacing the relays and having it work for a bit does sorta imply that the relays' are failing and in a arcing/burning closed mode too.....

From the description of the circuit, the master switch runs/powers these relays coils that are used as cut-out relays' that when closed is power things via their N.O. (normally open) contacts due to that they're in series with and are switching the main power that feed/s to all the accessory switches........

Thinking if they do stick closed, it would drain the battery if ANY of the devices being powered by the accessories switch is left on or has a standby current........ Wondering if they are in fact arcing closed due to a poor design?

Does the battery still go dead even if you shut off all the accessory switches along with the master switch being off?

If not? If those relays are sticking on and there is some current draw in some of those devices, I'd be inclined to open up the relays and check its contacts for molten pitted metals in those contacts.....
