I'm undertaking the major task (for me anyway), of removing my old OMC Seadrive, installing a swim platform/transom bracket and a new Yamaha 150. My boat has some type of aftermaket controls, maybe Morse, but I haven't noticed a brand name on them. The tilt/trim button is on the throttle lever and the ignition swith is stand-alone mounted in the console. When I purchase my new outboard will I have to buy the Yamaha controls, or is common to convert this type of controls from one brand to another? Also, if anyone can give me any tips on mounting this transom bracket, it would be more than appreciated! Thanks, Treb...

universally guarenteed not to fit and cause gearcase problems later. I know its expensive but step up to the pump and buy yamaha cables( 10 times better than teleflex) buy the correct control box and at least the tach kit. anything less and you will see why some of us professional wrenches chuckle. I AM NOT the maytag man. if it breaks and its NOT a yamaha failure it gets duly noted.
good luck and keep posting
PS would not be the first major gearcase or power head failure cause by poor rigging and yamaha wont warrenty it if they did not make it.

Hi,
You will for sure save yourself time and headache if You buy Yamaha orginal control and intruments.
Not sure if You prefer built in control (I have it) or the side mount (outside) control. Yamaha instruments are available in digital or analog guages, I have the digital (speed and tach). I have Navman Fuel 3100 fuelcomputer also (seen at the right side, I have also a snapp off steering wheel that is why steering wheel is missing in picture below)
A picture of my boat:
(I have a Yamaha F115 4-stroke, 2003)
http://www.algonet.se/~boem/files/Y5820.jpg

Thanks for the advice. As you probably know, this changeout isn't a cheap one and I thought it might be a way to save some money using the old controls. But it sounds like it would just cost more money down the road. I'll post a pic when I get it all done!
