Okay first boat. Needed new tires. Disount sold me Carlisle Tow Master Radials ST205/75R14. Are these tires okay? Boat is a 95 Glastron SSV 215. Trailer has a tandem axel. Was researching on-line and am a little worried about the tires now. I will return them if need be.

Thanks

They're fine...I've had them on all sorts of trailers. Snowmobile/boat/camper...put thousands of miles on them...never had a problem unless I ran over something. As with any tire...as long as you maintain pressure and don't overload them they'll do their job.

I bought a set of Tow Masters since the price was "right". They ride fine, but after 2+ years one of them got a big knot in the tread. I replaced it and the other one is still holding up OK.

If you want quality tires, see if you can get Maxxis or Goodyear Marathons. Marathons that are made somewhere other than China, the ST205/75R14's are "supposed" to be made back here in the states now,,, maybe Canada.

Buying ANY brand is a crap shoot ?..There are only a few tire manufactures in the world today so you don't really know who manufactured the tire. There is no brand loyalty since it usually goes to the lowest bidder. IF you could find one that said made in USA take it with a grain of salt because the materials most likely came from China or Korea. As long as it is certified with a DOT tag your ok.

Read the internet long enough and you'll find something to support everything, good or bad.

Your tires are fine. I have those exact tires and have easily put over 1000 miles on them in the last year with no problems whatsoever.

Aint that the Truth!! Thanks, feel a little better now, atleast about the tires. I was so worried about the condition of the boat, should have worried more about the trailer! Lesson learned...suppose the first of anything is always full of lessons

well, actually, you should pay lots of attention to the trailer. That was actually MY lesson learned when buying my first boat. DONT OVERLOOK THE TRAILER! I had to do some welding and replace the dry rotted tires, as well as buy a spare.

But anyway, I dont see anything wrong with the Carlisles. Like someone said, keep them properly inflated and dont overload them. I'd also check the condition of the bearings.

I've had Carlisles on my trailer for about 2 years now with no problems....but that said, check/maintain correct tire pressures, buy new trailer tires about every three years, hope for the best, and always carry a jack and a spare tire.;) I'm not aware of any really superior quality trailer tires!....Used to be a trailer tire brand called, "Maypops", 'cause they could pop at any time!:D
